The luminescence process of luminescent bacteria is a metabolic physiological process within the bacterial body, which is a photorespiration process and a lateral branch on the respiratory chain. The wavelength of this light is around 490nm. This luminescence process is highly susceptible to external conditions, and any factors that interfere or damage bacterial respiration or physiological processes can cause changes in bacterial luminescence intensity. When toxic and harmful substances come into contact with luminescent bacteria, the toxic substances in the water sample will affect the metabolism of luminescent bacteria, and the decrease in luminescence intensity is directly proportional to the concentration of toxic substances in the sample.
